Miyazaki-sensei will be visiting the U.S. this July for the very last time a) to pick up the Berkeley Japan award, b) because he’s contractually obligated to Disney to make a U.S. appearance, before returning to Japan to crank out the two last movies he’s got in him. I think it would be awesome if there was some way that the Bay Area Anime Fans could also present Miyazaki with a gift… Does anyone have Pixar connections? I’m sure John Lasseter knows the details…
But what could we give him that would be meaningful and Northern California-ish?

A friend just sent me some info on this, without even knowing I was looking for it (that’s a good friend)! According to info at http://genuinearticle.wordpress.com/2009/06/01/hayao-miyazake-tix-go-on-sale-tomorrow-noon/, the tickets go on sale tomorrow, so better act quickly if you plan to go!

I would like to go, but am already committed to San Diego Con. Anyone who IS going, please take lots of photos if you can.
I wonder if he’ll walk around and scribble on people’s white shirts and stuff, like he did that time at Pixar? If you’re going, wear a nice white shirt, just in case
I called the box office earlier this week and was told this event and Ponyo on the 24th were both sold out. YMMV.
Tickets were sold out within a week of when they opened sales.
I am gonna guess that tickets are sold out for Saturday?
