AnimeFX is San Francisco State's anime and video game club. Our meetings will soon begin for the semester and we allow non SFSU state students to attend our meetings as long as you have permission from the officers (which I am one).
This forum will be used as a base of operations for many of our members and soon to be members as we organize meetups and club events in conjunction with the staff of bayanime. Meetings haven't started yet as we'll be tabling soon but if you're interested in attending please say so and I'll gladly ask any questions you may have.

To those who don't know me already, I'm Aileen, the PR officer for Anime-FX.

Hello, Richie here, future VP (IIRC) of the club. Greetings.

Hi Aileen and Richie! Welcome to the forums!
About how often and when does AnimeFX have showings? Do you have any other events besides anime showings (video gaming, maybe?) planned?

As far as I know, we have a restricted rock-paper-scissors tournament planned (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiji_%28manga%29#Gambles)

So not to be an ass, but I've got a bit of a bone to pick with the leadership.
There was absolutely no information that I could find with a reasonable amount of effort as to the current status of Anime FX until today when I happened to spy the meeting flyer. I and 2 other "members" from a "meeting" we held 2 Fridays ago had been searching for any kind of organization president or officers or whatever and could not find anything. We tried emailing the Anime FX e-mail address and even went so far as to go to the LEAD office and drop off a note in the mailbox and inquire as to the state of the organization (which apparently has no adviser currently if you go by Anime FX's website)
I don't harbor any particular amount of ill will, but I am somewhat annoyed that until today, it seemed Anime FX no longer existed.
On a lighter note, Evangelion 1.0 at the Sundance Kabuki was awesome (the dub I mean, I'd already seen the movie about 5 or 6 times subbed), and I hope to see some of y'all next meeting. By the way, what kinda stuff do you do besides watch shows? You gonna do segments for AMVs or Abridged Series? (I'd love to pimp some of my work :P)

I'm sorry Paul for the inconvenience that you went through to locate us. I would like to know where you found out that we were going to meet prior to 9/11/09 as I need to see if I can either remove/edit the web content that presented the information. When we began tabling this semester we only had a tentative meeting date on 9/11 due to the fact that we never received confirmation on our room status due to the fact that those responsible for room reservations at OSPLD only recently submitted the necessary paper work. Given how you said you tried to find us in two weeks, I would guess that these were during the times when we were collecting e-mails for the Yahoo groups which is the club's main means of informing members about meeting times and other events.
Believe me when I say that we had no choice when it came with the sudden notification about our 9/11 meeting. It was only that 8 AM this morning that Vy, our vice president, was informed by OSPLD that our room request was answered. Many clubs suffered from similar problems with delayed room requests which were submitted such as the Card and Board Game Club which had their request denied but were only told this news at 2PM. The results of budget cuts and furlough days have hit our group pretty hard and we're doing our best as an organization to roll with the punches. Of course we haven't been able to adapt to the situation to the best of our abilities as shown by your story which once again I'm really sorry for.
To let you know, our club is now in full swing. We'll be meeting on Fridays from 4:30 to 8:30 in HSS 153/154 unless the campus is closed. To answer your question about what our group does I'd first like to say that our typical meetings are more than just watching anime. While our main viewing room is our biggest feature, we also have a second room which serves as a break room. Over there members are free to socialize with one another, it's really hard to say what exactly happens in the break room on account so many spontaneous events occur at once, Members play card/board games, have cosplay photoshoots, engage in anime related debates and discussions or just simply chat. Of course we have several events planned out such as...
1. Off campus meet ups planned along side with Bayanime
2. General convention attendance. Moreso arranging meetups at cons and just to take note on which FX Members will be attending.
3. Restricted Rock/Paper/Scissors tournament based off of the anime "Kaiji"
4. AnimeFX Swap Meet
5. AnimeFX Mystery Science TheaterWe have shown AMVs and Abridged Series in the past (I for one would love to show a winning AMV using footage from Fate/Stay Night) however a day dedicated to member generated content sounds more than intriguing. If you want to present your material to the club as a whole I'm sure we can work something out within the schedule as we're looking more unique things to do as a club.

Ahh, OK, things are falling into place now.
Thanks for clarifying a lot of questions I had. It was a bit difficult finding out what was going on as a first time frosh.
As to member generated content, I myself am a decent AMV editor (only my latest is really up to "average" standards of the .org) and I do a Full Metal Panic! Abridged Series with one of my good friends from back home. You can look me up on the .org or boochsack (youtube); I use the same screenname for everything just about.

Glad to help. I know it can be really frustrating to find out a specific date and time with our club when we have more than one website about us. The website you probably saw was made by our old president who suddenly disappeared, so to speak, thus leaving us in the predicament we're currently in. As one of the co-president's of the club my main agenda is to remove much of the old "clutter" about our organization and updating it in terms of getting new banners and websites. Please see me the next meeting that way I can get you into the yahoo groups where you'll get up to the minute updates about us and skip much of the BS you encountered in the past

Just a heads up, I'm gonna plan out a gathering over at AOD 2010 in January.

whoops, double post.

I'm J. I work on flyers ever so often, and sometimes show up to the meetings.
Posted 2 years ago # -
So are we gaming people too?
Posted 2 years ago # -
There are tons of gamers in the club so if you wish to discuss video games or play against someone on a DS or PSP you'll find yourself in good company.

We should either do something about the old homepage or change the link to the forum here.

Hey all. This is Ryan. Since Valkyria Chronicles is one of the shows we're presenting, I thought I'd make this flyer:

It's still a work in progress, though. All I have to work with are those poster makers available from lolcats.

Maybe she'd be more convincing if she didn't die so much in EX Hard. ;D
