Benkyodo in S.F. or Shueido in S.J.? I've been reading yelp comments and comparisons are also drawn to Mikawaya in L.A., and mochi and manju from either Hawaii or Japan.
I visited Benkyodo recently but haven't tried mochi or manju from any of the other places.
What were your experiences? Likes? Dislikes? Comparisons?
I thought Benkyodo's offerings were pretty good. My favorites were the smooth red bean paste, blueberry, and chocolate/marshmallow mochi. The strawberry mochi was either sold out or out of season when I visited so I didn't get to sample that. I think they also offer a sakura mochi closer to the New Year.
