Interested in watching one of Japan's most entertaining and beautiful art forms? Join us for the July meeting of the JETAANC Kabuki Club, a new club for people interested in watching Kabuki theatre. This time we will be watching a summertime thriller, The Ise Dances and Love's Dull Blade (Ise Ondo Koi no Netaba). Based on an actual multiple murder in the Aburaya Tea House, this play is one of the most popular in the Kabuki repertoire, combining action, intrigue and a spectacularly grotesque murder. The play is a staple of summer Kabuki performances in the belief that the audience will be cooled as they shiver with fear through the horrific killing scene. (Marty Gross) (As in all Kabuki plays, the violence is very stylized.) We will watch with the English commentary and refreshments will be provided.

If you love Kabuki theatre or would like to learn more about it, why don't you join us? Everyone is welcome! This time we're returning to the Rockridge boutique shopping district of Oakland. (5-minute walk from Rockridge BART station; 5-minute drive off of Hwy 580 or 24.)

    Date: Saturday, July 17, 2010
    Time: 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Location: Rockridge Library (2nd floor), 5366 College Avenue, Oakland
