    Hello everybody!
I'm Michi, I'm from Brazil and I'm an exchange student here in Mill Valley. I don't know if Mill Valley is part of Bay area... actually, I don't know what bay area is...^_^'hahaha...but I'm learning.

My English is not that good yet but I'm going to try my best to introduce myself.

Well, I'm here in USA since august 10 and I'm in Mill Valley since august 31, so I'm a little time here and I don't know anything yet.
I found this site by google, I was trying to find places where fans of anime are and about some conventions and events in San Francisco.
My favorite anime is Azumanga Daioh, but I really like shojos and I watch a lot of different types. I like Yu Yu Hakusho and everything related to Akira Toryama.
I LOVE Asian dramas and J-pop. My favorite group is Morning Musume and I was very sad to come after they performed in LA in July. T.T
About games I'm addicted to Sims and currently I'm playing Rhythm Heaven at DS.

Please, if someone can help me, I saw on the internet (hi google. xD) about Japantown in SF and I would like to know if it's a good place to a anime fan visit or there are better places to go?

    It's this! ^_^
    Once again, sorry my English.

Honestly, Japantown is more of a place to go to if you're interested in Japanese-American stuff. There's some collector's shops and the in-general bookstore, but otherwise, it's more for J-Americans, IMO.

  3. Yes, Mill Valley is in the Bay Area. It is in the North Bay. I think there's at least one person active on this forum from the North Bay but I forget who it is.

Japantown is probably worth a visit to check out the shops, but unless there's an anime related special event or you are a lot more social than I am, it would be hard to meet other fans.

If you will still be in the area in May, FanimeCon in San Jose is the biggest gathering of the year. I may be biased since I'm from the San Jose area (the South Bay), but I think there are more clubs, stores and gatherings in this area. If you ever can travel as far as Santa Clara on the second Saturday of the month, please join us at No-Name Anime.

    Thanks everybody!

I'll be here until August 2010, after that, I go back to Brazil. Although I can stay here for 2 years but depends of my homesick. XD
I want to know as many places as possible, so I have programmed a visit to Japantown for the next Saturday, if someone wants to go, are welcome. ^_^ v

Good to know about FanimeCon. Surely I'll try to go! Thanks for the tip.

  6. Hey Michi! Welcome to the country and the Bay Area! What are you studying here? Do you speak Japanese? There are a bunch of events that come up periodically. Probably the closest anime club for you would be AnimeFX at San Francisco State University; they hold showings every Friday or so during the school year.

    Thanks!
I'm studying English at College of Marin.
I would like to speak Japanese, but currently only English and Portuguese. xD
Oh, I'm busy every Friday, but thanks for the tip anyway.

    Hey Michi,

I posted on your meetup topic but I just wanted to say hey. I'm new to the Bay Area and here until August 2010 myself, albeit from the Southeast USA but sometimes it feels like a new country. Japantown is neat if you like J-culture but not in particular anime.
