Tonight and tommorow night, Japantown's New People will be screening the both Gurren Lagann compilation movies and if people can make it out for at least one of these showings, I think an Anime FX club meet-up would be a capital idea. Due to a number of factors, I will only be attending tonight's screening of the second movie, but I hope to see some friendly faces there at the very least.

I will be there tomorrow evening. Not sure if I can hangout with anyone because I will have a friend with me.

is the Viz Cinema located at their offices on powell + bay? i want to watch these so badly, but i cannot make it tomorrow due to a prior engagement.

i wonder when the movies will be available on dvd. has anyone seen the movies? they sound like a retelling of the Gurren Lagann series... is it a re-imagining like the Escaflowne movie or a re-telling like the Evangelion ones?

They're compilation movies. The kind that splice old footage from the TV series with new animation and they basically tell the same story. To answer your other question, Viz Cinema is located in the New People building in Japantown, which is easily accessible from Geary.

I have no doubts that the movies are going to get a dvd release. Maybe then I can watch them without shit-for-brains people in the audience talking during them (I'll speak more to this in the year-end Anime Films of 09 essay I have in the works).

I saw the first movie and it's like a recap of the first half of the series with new scenes at the end.
