    Greetings.

27 y/o M techie here... Due to numerous factors, Anime was a part of my life before I even knew what it was. Career necessities and personal political realities precipitated my complete uprooting from Atlanta, GA and relocation to SF proper (currently along the panhandle)

Needless to say, my nearest friends are over 3k miles away, and I'd love to meet some like-minded people here.

I'm absolutely surprised to see the state of the local anime community in SF county, though. Either it's buried very, very deep underground, or Atlanta's is much healthier of late (maybe it's just closer to the surface because the culture is all big-box).

    Loves include:
    -convoluted seinen style plots
    -the obnoxiously moe
-hard scifi (not limited to anime)
    -character driven
-parody (also not limited to anime, see mst3k, rifftrax.com)
    -high fantasy

    top 5 titles:
    Akira
    scraprin
    gits sac
    Aria
    shangri-la

indeed, san francisco is like a climactically cooler and much stranger "foil" to the idealized tokyo in manga. Not a day goes by where I don't stumble across some stereotypical situation and have to laugh. This city will be my next addiction I suppose, given my propensity to gravitate toward the pleasantly odd.

By the way, I was clued into something relevant to this topic. A hero willing to dedicate some time has recently launched a proto-group with the purpose of forming a fully independent san francisco county anime club. Worth a look. I intend to make a profile post haste.
