This is where you post your favorite anime. This does NOT include manga. We'll save that for another thread ^^.

    My favorite anime are:

Hana Yori Dango (absolutely my #1 favorite)
    Candy Candy
    Touch
    Rose of Versailles
    Garasu no Kamen
    Oniisama E..
    Full Moon o Sagashite
    Fruits Basket
    Nurse Angel Ririka
    Hime-chan no Ribbon
    Marmalade Boy
    Kamikaze Kaitou Jeanne
    Fushigi Yuugi
    Chance Pop Session
    And of course Sailormoon!

Hmm as you can see, I like mostly the older series. I think they have more depth in their characters.. Or maybe I just like the storyline better.. Who knows ^^ I'm not too into the super ultra cutesy ones where the characters are chibi-fied every 5 frames or so. I haven't really been into anything new lately, but I haven't really been looking either, because I'm more into reading manga. Oh well, there's my list. Now how about yours? Feel free to be more descriptive about what you like about a certain anime, etc.

For myself, Hana Yori Dango is my all around #1 series; I love the anime, manga, live action series, movie, live action movie, etc. I did NOT care for Meteor Garden though, but that's it. Now why do I love HYD so much? I really like Makino's character. She can be frustrating at times, but she's very independent and she definitely softens up (finally) over time, but it takes a LOT. She's poor, she's proud, she doesn't take crap from anyone. But she's very caring and looks out for her loved ones. And Doumyoji.. oh my gosh, I love him! They are perfect for each other. Sorry Rui, you aren't the one for her, no way! Anyways, it's your typical drama/soap opera romance and I'm a sap for those kinds of things. I'll take reality over space demons any ol' day! And I love this series so much, that years ago, I spent a lot of money trying to find all the toys and goods that came from the anime. I have almost all of the toys (like the bath scrubs, the recorder, fortune teller thing, etc). It's all worth it to me though :)

  3. Hey Kimiko, I liked Hana Yori Dango too... in college I even translated some episodes for a fansubbing group. (Oh... and I always thought Rui was lame!) I'm also not usually into kiddie cutesy anime but I did like Gakuen Alice.

Never heard of myanigamer but I'll definitely have to sign up and poke around! Are there any other anime social network sites you know of, TianLord? Somehow I haven't watched anything recent except for a few episodes of Slayers Revolution (I used to be a huge Slayers fan!) but I've seen a bit of Code Geass and still want to watch more. I tend to really like a lot of Sci-Fi anime like Ghost in the Shell (1st and 2nd Gig) and Cowboy Bebop, although those are sort of older.

Those are the only 2 that I found that didn't look questionable in nature. Myanigamer is a pretty newish site still coming out were just broke 1000 members.

Yay a HYD fan! That's awesome you translated some episodes. I was part of a fandub a long time ago and was understudy to Makino, so I did a couple of her lines lol I'm still waiting for my copy of the dvd.

  6. Cool, Kimiko! I remember HYD as being one of the easier animes to translate! ^^ Anyone else out there involved in any fansub/dub groups?

  7. i'm pretty nostalgic when it comes to the old school macross series. robotech was what got me originally interested in animu, and the macross plus ova pretty much blew me away. i refuse to acknowledge the existence of macross 7 however.
i haven't watched too much animu recently, but i saw tekkonkinkreet a few months ago which i really enjoyed. the music and art were very inspired, especially since it used non-traditional character models (i need a break sometimes from big eyes and giant hair). i'm quite amazed at the kind of complex scenery animation they can do nowadays with the aid of CG...
wow, most of the animu series i recognize are 10+ years old... so in conclusion, i'm old and you kids better get off my lawn.

  8. I'm definitely more familiar with older anime series... I've seen all those old fansubbed VHS classics but stopped keeping up probably around 2002 or so. At some point I realized too much garbage was coming out that wasn't worth wasting my time on; I figured it must be that digital and outsourcing made anime much easier/cheaper to produce and I probably also got quite a bit pickier over the years. I need some kind of specifically tuned filter telling me what's good these days!

I hear Macross FRONTIER is topping the charts in Japan right now so I'm thinking it's probably worth checking out. Macross Plus was awesome! Of the original Robotech/Macross series I mostly liked it except for the 2nd story arc (and Minmay sure was annoying). Macross 7 was too weird (with those guitar controllers... what?!) for my tastes.

Macross Frontier is a definite must watch if your into mecha, saw some of macross 7 didn't fit my taste.

  10. ok, i'll check out frontier...i saw some previews but i was afraid it was more in the spirit of macross 7 (since it seems to be a continuation of it's crazy timeline). but hey, i'll settle for any macross at this point that doesn't involve flying a valkyrie with a guitar-joystick.

  11. Hey Mike, did you check out Macross Frontier yet? I watched the first episode but am not sure what to think yet... liked it less than Gurren Lagann which I also just started. Also started rewatching Eva which I think is a better series than both.

  12. yeah, i just watched the first ep of macross frontier...i'm not a big fan of the character designs (a little too unrealistic/crazy anime hair! for me), but the mecha combat scenes were pretty intense imho -- cg has come a long way! they don't seem to have any characters that tie to the previous series either...
i think i'll stick to it, being the die hard macross fan that i am (i forced myself to watch EVERY episode of macross 7). as long as the storylines don't get too ridiculous and they keep the right balance of the dark/serious tones and the more whimsical themes, i hope i won't be disappointed...

  13. too lazy to list, i'll just place my most favorite ones.

    Magic Knight Rayearth
    Hellsing/ Hellsing Ultimate
    Kaleido Star
    Kyo Kara Maoh
    Phoenix

  14. I forgot about the whole Macross thing where the idol pop singer is always linked to the battles. I guess I always thought that was weird, so I liked it in Robotech the 3rd generation where they just get kept it simple with the robots and bikes. Although the virtual idol element in Macross Plus really worked for that story and made it cool.

Ah, Rayearth! That was my intro to CLAMP, and I liked their (manga) art style. Dunno what they are doing these days... Is X (the manga) even over yet?

  15. I don't even know if the Tsubasa Chronichles is even done yet... although if you've heard, CLAMP got paid for designing clothes and characters for the anime, Code Geas.

  16. For me it's Urusei Yatsura all the way. Then there's Irresponsible Captain Tylor, and then everything else. :)

  17. Ah, Tylor! Wouldn't mind rewatching that one.

Note: If it were possible, Code Geass would receive an even higher rating. Best anime ending...ever =]

  20. My favorite anime is One Piece, followed by Detective Conan. After that i'm still unsure, some newer releases have disturbed my long standing list and i've yet to decide (Gurren Lagann, oh where do you stand in my heart).
