  1. So I finally started watching Cowboy Bebop. I wasn't immediately hooked but I must admit that the show has gradually grown on me.

After the first few episodes I began thinking about Spike's character and how he reminded me of a "wandering samurai" anitihero archetype. What was kinda cool was at the same moment that I came to this realization the following scene occured. In episode 3 in the casino there was a scene where patrons watched a black and white samurai flick while Spike walked casually by and jingled chips in one hand and then Spike paused to look at the screen. That was such a surreal moment for me.

I'm at the mushroom episode and so far I really like the cool vibe of the anime and the pop culture homages/references to both music and film. I also like the story-telling, pacing, character development, and depth of Cowboy Bebop.

I think I saw some Bruce Lee film references. Did anyone else see any other pop culture references?

What does everyone else think of Cowboy Bebop?

  2. The main characters of CB remind me of the characters from Lupin III. I think the overall quality of CB is high. The "beta" episode is probably my favorite.

  3. Hmmm...I might have to check out Lupin III next. I'm with you on the overall quality. I just finished up the last ep and CB is one of the best anime that I have seen.

Cowboy Bebop is one of the reasons I got into anime. It was beautiful, and I really liked all the characters, except Ed. I probably would have liked it more if it wasn't episodic.
