  1. Just wanted to meet some anime fans in the area and stumbled in here, hi :)

I'm a '05 cal grad, now working in Oakland as a structural engiNERD. I love panda's and I doodle on occasions: http://www.panda-color.com

So what's everybody watching nowadays? So far, the storytelling in the earlier Full Metal Alchemist series is waaay better than the 2009 one, imo...

Sup how's it going? Welcome to Bayanime! FMA 2009 is blazing through the old material so they can get to the manga specific storyline; remember it took > 2 times as long in the old series to get to this point! I can see how one might not like that approach so much, but I'm really looking forward to what's to come! In addition to that I guess right now I'm watching the new season of Haruhi, One Piece, and DBZ Kai.

  3. Hi kinok! Thanks for finding us! I checked out your site... good stuff! Mai from PMBQ is another artist here in the Bay Area with panda love: http://pmbq.com

    More engineers! Woot!

I haven't checked out the new FMA yet. I marathon-watched the entire the original series in a couple days so maybe I'll just end up doing that for this new one at some point. There's a new Haruhi?! Latest thing I watched is the new Slayers series, which was disappointing actually. Oh wells.

Do you ever come down to SF? We're starting up a club here. Karaoke on the 11th in Japantown!

  4. Hi ColdDuck, hi Ann! Thanks for the warm welcome :)

Regarding FMA 2009, I wonder why they don't just start from where the previous series really diverged...I guess I'm just impatient, but yeah definitely excited to see the new stuff!

I'm watching the new Haruhi too, it's neat...and it makes me want more Lucky Star O.o
Other than that I'm stiiiiill watching Bleach, and finishing up Higashi no Eden and K-ON!

Oh I roam around Jtown fairly often...karaoke sounds good! I guess I'll dig around for more info :)

There's a lucky star OVA if you haven't seen it.

Also, is there a specific reason why the later K-ON episodes aren't widescreen?

  6. I love the MMO segment in the Lucky Star OVA ;)

Dunno about the widescreen issue, just depends on the ripper maybe? I'm a real sucker for the slice of life stuffs so lemme know if you have any recommendations :D

I keep seeing K-on referenced. What's that about? Also, I haven't seen Hidamari Sketch, Genshiken or Toradora either, so I'll look forward to those. I think Genshiken is in my netflix queue.

heya larushka, i think k-on is about three hs girls who start their own band, even thought they don't know how to play yet.

i think genshiken was recommended for me to watch, but i haven't yet. also, i think i just finished the first series of haruhi... the next dvd on my netflix seems to be some bonus one. does that mean i can start watching the rumored second series??

welcome to the group, kinok! our first meetup in jtown last week was extremely fun. i can't wait for our karaoke meetup on july 11th! woooooooooooo

4 girls actually for k-on. I don't think the "don't know how to play" is actually accurate, since it only really applies to one of them. They just aren't very good. :P

Hidamari sketch is about girls at an art school

Genshiken is about an anime/gaming club.

Actually another anime to watch is Welcome to NHK if you want a slice of hikikomori life.

  14. I really enjoyed NHK, tho it's a pretty rotten slice of life... :)

Looking forward to meeting y'all at karaoke night!
