Due to numerous factors, Anime was a part of my life before I even knew what it was. Career necessities and personal political realities precipitated my complete uprooting from Atlanta, GA and relocation to SF proper (currently along the panhandle) Needless to say, my nearest friends are over 3k miles away, and I'd love to meet some like-minded people here. I'm absolutely surprised to see the state of the local anime community in SF county, though. Either it's buried very, very deep underground, or Atlanta's is much healthier of late (maybe it's just closer to the surface because the culture is all big-box). My "IF...THENs": IF i'm hooked after watching the 1st ep...THEN the anime will most likely become a favorite IF i watch past 1/3 of the season series...THEN i'll say that the anime was pretty good IF the 1st 1/3 of the season series ever becomes unappealing..THEN i'll drop the anime i'll watch anime based on #1) animation style & quality/character models #2) premise #3) story pacing/character progression generally i like mecha, action, historical, sci-fi & seinen but i'll give almost any anime a shot some favorites - macross franchise (except macross7), gurren lagann, ninja scroll (movie), basilisk, GitS franchise, evangelion, claymore, bamboo blade, full metal panic!, black lagoon, moribito, code geass, soul eater, sengoku basara, eden of the east favorites that require special attention: shigurui - may be slow and hard to follow but outstanding animation quality, artistic style, and unique premise/story make this anime a favorite for me makoto shinkai - (voices of a distant star, the place promised in our early days, 5cm per second) using off the shelf software and home pcs/notebooks to produce anime of exceptional quality is truly a talent to be admired Yasuhiro Yoshiura - (pale cocoon, eve no jikan) another talented director/artist like makoto shinkai currently watching canaan, bakemonogatari, umineko no naku koro ni, needless GAMES: played pretty much every console classic favorite obscure game = blaster master for NES last console played = N64 favorite N64 games = goldeneye/starfox/wcw vs nwo: world tour/star wars: rogue squadron abandoned console gaming indefinitely & moved on to pc games exclusively my favorite pc games are: strategy = civilization series/total war series (shogun total war is still my favorite) hack&slash = diablo2 (I FREAKING LOVED THIS GAME!!!!...until the game and my accounts got hacked to pieces & ppl were running multiple farming bot instances) fps = return to castle wolfenstein multi-player (LOVED THIS GAME TOO!!!)/call of duty series rpg = baldur's gate series (storyline was win)/neverwinter nights mmorpg = guild wars series ----> age of conan (gfx = win but game = fail for me) flight sim = il2 sturmovik don't really game much now..last games played were age of conan & call of duty: world at war waiting for diablo3 & guild wars2 OTHER STUFF: i like samurai & ninja movies (currently watching tenchijin taiga drama) Jan Suzukawa on "Hello from Jan" http://bayanime.com/forums/topic/hello-from-jan#post-1511 Thu, 20 Aug 2009 19:00:33 +0000 Jan Suzukawa 1511@http://bayanime.com/forums/ I've been posting for a while, but thought I'd formally (or not so formally) introduce myself...
