Ya MMOs can be tough. First you have to find a game that you are willing to plunk down the cash for especially if it has a monthly subscription and hope that it doesn't fail in the near future (if it's a new game). Then you have to find a guild if the game is set up where you almost have to join a guild to experience endgame content like loot, crafting, and raiding.

Raids. I have seen guild officers who were the nicest people in guild but changed during raids where egos, power trips, nepotism and greed dominated their personalities. I was going to post links to Youtube videos about raids gone wrong but I decided against it because the content may have been too offensive and disturbing to those who haven't raided in MMORPGs or have not been in guilds.

I loved Diablo2 because you could go off on your own and farm or craft endgame content without having to be in a guild...yes it's a hack-and-slash and not a true MMO but I had tons of fun. And what I liked about Guild Wars was that you could solo some of the instances or find a decent pick-up-group without too much trouble.

RO guilds with a valued War of Emperium. Happens all the time where everyone turns out to be bitchy and greedy, or suckups. There's usually already a social structure set up in the guilds. I can't even count the guilds I've been in in RO, let alone all my MMO experience.

I've had good and bad experiences with guild. I ran a rather successful guild in the first days of Guild Wars, but I left my officers in charge when I went on vacation and when I got back they had had a fight and formed their own guilds taking everyone with them. I never played that game again.

I've had success with WoW guilds. If it isn't a proper fit you just quit the guild and find another. It's best to either discover a very friendly easy going guild, or a very serious playing guild. If they're just focused on the stats and the playing then there is very little drama.

I'm in a Guild Wars guild (actually an Alliance). Our founder insisted that only people we knew could join. Sometimes groups of two or three of us play together. Sometimes five to seven of us will all gather together at someone's house to play. I've never had the "join a guild with random people on the internet" experience.

game = return to castle wolfenstein (pc) / map = beach / punkbuster = on

several years ago i joined a server and a rag-tag team that had been losing match after match. shortly after a few new players joined our team. we lost the following matches but i sensed that the tide was turning and that we were becoming more cohesive. this all culminated in a moment that i will never forget:

i had retrieved the "objective" and was met with a small escort as i made my way to return the "objective" and win the match. everything was so surreal and was in slow motion as i sprinted. the marksmanship of my teammates was phenomenal as i was unscathed and didn't have to deviate from my course. as i made the home stretch i saw teammate after teammate in perfect defensive positions as they laid down intense and deadly covering fire to allow me to win the match for our team.

i was in awe as the disharmonious became harmonious and how in one moment total strangers had worked together as if they had known each other for years.

have any of you had similar online gaming experiences?

i used to play AGE OF CONAN solo and decided to join a guild for the first time to experience more "end game" content found during "raiding". on the surface the guild had a lot of nice people and relative to other guilds we were behind in raid progression. a lot of guildmates had told me that this particular guild was the best guild that they had ever joined. but what i had experienced was a lot of politics, favoritism, brown-nosing, deception, hidden agendas, and subtle coercion similar to what george orwell portrayed in ANIMAL FARM...not fun at all.

guilds are not for me and mmorpgs that almost require you to be in a guild to get the best loot are also not for me. in retrospect i am a soloist by nature and admire the genius of other innovative players who think outside-the-box and transcend cookie-cutter character builds to create amazing solo farming builds.

what were your mmorpg guild experiences?

Continue with the series and you'll see if he has a thing for her.

I'm not sure what you mean by "where did he disappear". He was asleep in the office most of the time... if you mean when instead of where, I guess some time after he left the phone message but before she saw him in the office. They didn't really show it.

Hey DYRL84! Welcome to BayAnime! So you started with Robotech and Star Blazers... what about Voltron?

I used to be really hooked on D2 and Quake III when I was in school, but I honestly haven't seriously played another PC game since then.

Anyway we should have more meetups in SF in the future so I hope you can join us!

hi all!

randomly found this site

live on the outskirts of san francisco

ANIME:

it all started with starblazers & robotech!

didn't really watch much anime later except for the occasional drunken blockbuster night with friends

jumped back into anime a couple of years ago...with a vengeance!

My "IF...THENs":

IF i'm hooked after watching the 1st ep...THEN the anime will most likely become a favorite

IF i watch past 1/3 of the season series...THEN i'll say that the anime was pretty good

IF the 1st 1/3 of the season series ever becomes unappealing..THEN i'll drop the anime

i'll watch anime based on #1) animation style & quality/character models #2) premise #3) story pacing/character progression

generally i like mecha, action, historical, sci-fi & seinen but i'll give almost any anime a shot

some favorites - macross franchise (except macross7), gurren lagann, ninja scroll (movie), basilisk, GitS franchise, evangelion, claymore, bamboo blade, full metal panic!, black lagoon, moribito, code geass, soul eater, sengoku basara, eden of the east

favorites that require special attention:
shigurui - may be slow and hard to follow but outstanding animation quality, artistic style, and unique premise/story make this anime a favorite for me

makoto shinkai - (voices of a distant star, the place promised in our early days, 5cm per second) using off the shelf software and home pcs/notebooks to produce anime of exceptional quality is truly a talent to be admired

Yasuhiro Yoshiura - (pale cocoon, eve no jikan) another talented director/artist like makoto shinkai

currently watching canaan, bakemonogatari, umineko no naku koro ni, needless

GAMES:

played pretty much every console classic

favorite obscure game = blaster master for NES

last console played = N64
favorite N64 games = goldeneye/starfox/wcw vs nwo: world tour/star wars: rogue squadron

abandoned console gaming indefinitely & moved on to pc games exclusively

my favorite pc games are:

strategy = civilization series/total war series (shogun total war is still my favorite)
hack&slash = diablo2 (I FREAKING LOVED THIS GAME!!!!...until the game and my accounts got hacked to pieces & ppl were running multiple farming bot instances)
fps = return to castle wolfenstein multi-player (LOVED THIS GAME TOO!!!)/call of duty series
rpg = baldur's gate series (storyline was win)/neverwinter nights
mmorpg = guild wars series ----> age of conan (gfx = win but game = fail for me)
flight sim = il2 sturmovik

don't really game much now..last games played were age of conan & call of duty: world at war

waiting for diablo3 & guild wars2

OTHER STUFF:

i like samurai & ninja movies (currently watching tenchijin taiga drama)
