Names Chris. Been an anime fan for the majority of my 21 year life and was hoping to meet some others who share my interest (since I haven't had many chances, and never wanted to go to a convention, etc. by mayself). I live in the east bay and was wondering if anyone wanted to hang out sometime. Maybe explore the city. Hope to hear from ya all soon

P.S. I'm an avid rock climber and really enjoy tennis, so if anyone would like to do either of those, lemme know =D

Hi everyone! My name is Celeste, and I live up near Santa Rosa. I've been an anime fan for about 10+ years now, since I started watching Sailor Moon on Adult Swim back in middle school (you do the math). I actually swore off anime when I was in college because I was frustrated that they weren't translating a lot of josei, and I was getting too old for shoujo. But I'm really happy with all the latest advances in bringing more anime over to the US with Crunchyroll, Funimation, scanlations, etc.

My other interests are roller derby, snowboarding, art (Copics+inking yuri fanart mostly) and cooking. I'm teaching assistant for a special ed class during the day, a DJ at the local roller skating rink on weekends, and a student at night. I go to Santa Rosa Junior College, where I'm studying interactive media design.

I'm excited to meet some local otaku! I don't have any anime friends, so please feel free to say hello. :)

Greetings.

27 y/o M techie here... Due to numerous factors, Anime was a part of my life before I even knew what it was. Career necessities and personal political realities precipitated my complete uprooting from Atlanta, GA and relocation to SF proper (currently along the panhandle)

Needless to say, my nearest friends are over 3k miles away, and I'd love to meet some like-minded people here.

I'm absolutely surprised to see the state of the local anime community in SF county, though. Either it's buried very, very deep underground, or Atlanta's is much healthier of late (maybe it's just closer to the surface because the culture is all big-box).

Loves include:
-convoluted seinen style plots
-the obnoxiously moe
-hard scifi (not limited to anime)
-character driven
-parody (also not limited to anime, see mst3k, rifftrax.com)
-high fantasy

Hello out there. I actually signed up about two months ago and just forgot to "properly" introduce myself.

I'm Ira and I have been into Anime since the 90's. My initial introduction was a little before that but that sort of unimportant at this time.

I enjoy a variety of shows. Everything from the rare lesser known features like Voices of a Distant Star to mainstream shows like Working. I generally like a good story more than anything.

I have also written a few articles concerning the various facets of the fandom. Mostly for practice and assignments though. But I do have fun putting them together since I get to learn something that I have yet to learn about being an fan.

I hope to help out in anyway if possible and maybe learn something from all of you.

Hi everyone~!

I'm foxberry, I'm sort-of-new to cosplay and the convention scene, I say this because I've only started cosplaying since Memorial Day weekend 2009 and I've moved to the Bay Area not too long ago, July.

However I have been into anime since I was 15, my first anime was Sailor Moon and I still cherish it till this day. I'm 26 now and I enjoy various other things outside of anime and cosplay; some which include art and writing as well as "old-school" text-based roleplay (multi-paragraphs which were more common during yahoo's roleplay golden age haha).

In any case I'm looking forward to meeting new people!

Hey guys -
I've been in the bay area for almost a year and a half now, after living in Georgia for almost my whole life. I'm 21, and i live in el cerrito! I've been into anime for a long long time, and i'm happy to see how available it has become over the last 5 years or so, compared to how rare and unheard of it used to be. (atleast, where i was from XD) My favorite genre is drama/psychological, but i can enjoy just about any well written story. :)

Well, Since i've been here i havent really made many friends, so i'm looking to meet some new people who have simmilar interests!

Hey y'all,

I just got to the bay area (Oakland to be exact) from Georgia. When I was back in Ga. I was president of my uni's anime club for a year, firmly established my status as a nerd. Totally sad I'm missed/missing DragonCon, AWA, and JapanFest. So now that I'm on the other coast I'm looking forward to getting involved with the good nerdy times here.

My favourite types of anime on the large scale is shoujo especially magic shoujo. But I watch a lot of different types. I just started watching Ristorante Paradsio and Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei online. I like Asian dramas as well. When it comes to video games I'm a nintendo girl for life and I like playing DDR as well, though I haven't in a few months. I'm studying for the JLPT 4 for December as well.

really glad I found this site today.

Hello everybody!
I'm Michi, I'm from Brazil and I'm an exchange student here in Mill Valley. I don't know if Mill Valley is part of Bay area... actually, I don't know what bay area is...^_^'hahaha...but I'm learning.

My English is not that good yet but I'm going to try my best to introduce myself.

Well, I'm here in USA since august 10 and I'm in Mill Valley since august 31, so I'm a little time here and I don't know anything yet.
I found this site by google, I was trying to find places where fans of anime are and about some conventions and events in San Francisco.
My favorite anime is Azumanga Daioh, but I really like shojos and I watch a lot of different types. I like Yu Yu Hakusho and everything related to Akira Toryama.
I LOVE Asian dramas and J-pop. My favorite group is Morning Musume and I was very sad to come after they performed in LA in July. T.T
About games I'm addicted to Sims and currently I'm playing Rhythm Heaven at DS.

Please, if someone can help me, I saw on the internet (hi google. xD) about Japantown in SF and I would like to know if it's a good place to a anime fan visit or there are better places to go?

It's this! ^_^
Once again, sorry my English.

Hi. I'm a native San Franciscan and I've been watching Anime since the 90s. It's always been a personal thing though: I don't have many friends that watch anime nor was I ever part of a club. I'm hoping to change that as I get more and more into it though. I get ripped a lot because I prefer to watch dub over subbed. It also sucks to be a dub fan because I usually have to wait until the Anime gets big in Japan before a dub is released (I'm guessing I miss out on a lot of good Anime that just never get dubbed). My favorite Anime of all time is the Record of Lodoss War OVA (yeah, real ol' school). I think the first Anime I watched was robotech, but I don't remember anything about it except the half transformed robosuits. I pretty much exclusively stick to the action genre of Anime. I'm currently watching Shippuden and Bleach (who isn't though?). I'm also giving Guin Saga a chance. When's the next meet up? Always looking for good new Anime (dub if possible, subbed... just as good) and good new friends.

hi all!

randomly found this site

live on the outskirts of san francisco

ANIME:

it all started with starblazers & robotech!

didn't really watch much anime later except for the occasional drunken blockbuster night with friends

jumped back into anime a couple of years ago...with a vengeance!

My "IF...THENs":

IF i'm hooked after watching the 1st ep...THEN the anime will most likely become a favorite

IF i watch past 1/3 of the season series...THEN i'll say that the anime was pretty good

IF the 1st 1/3 of the season series ever becomes unappealing..THEN i'll drop the anime

i'll watch anime based on #1) animation style & quality/character models #2) premise #3) story pacing/character progression

generally i like mecha, action, historical, sci-fi & seinen but i'll give almost any anime a shot

some favorites - macross franchise (except macross7), gurren lagann, ninja scroll (movie), basilisk, GitS franchise, evangelion, claymore, bamboo blade, full metal panic!, black lagoon, moribito, code geass, soul eater, sengoku basara, eden of the east

favorites that require special attention:
shigurui - may be slow and hard to follow but outstanding animation quality, artistic style, and unique premise/story make this anime a favorite for me

makoto shinkai - (voices of a distant star, the place promised in our early days, 5cm per second) using off the shelf software and home pcs/notebooks to produce anime of exceptional quality is truly a talent to be admired

Yasuhiro Yoshiura - (pale cocoon, eve no jikan) another talented director/artist like makoto shinkai

currently watching canaan, bakemonogatari, umineko no naku koro ni, needless

GAMES:

played pretty much every console classic

favorite obscure game = blaster master for NES

last console played = N64
favorite N64 games = goldeneye/starfox/wcw vs nwo: world tour/star wars: rogue squadron

abandoned console gaming indefinitely & moved on to pc games exclusively

my favorite pc games are:

strategy = civilization series/total war series (shogun total war is still my favorite)
hack&slash = diablo2 (I FREAKING LOVED THIS GAME!!!!...until the game and my accounts got hacked to pieces & ppl were running multiple farming bot instances)
fps = return to castle wolfenstein multi-player (LOVED THIS GAME TOO!!!)/call of duty series
rpg = baldur's gate series (storyline was win)/neverwinter nights
mmorpg = guild wars series ----> age of conan (gfx = win but game = fail for me)
flight sim = il2 sturmovik

don't really game much now..last games played were age of conan & call of duty: world at war

waiting for diablo3 & guild wars2

OTHER STUFF:

i like samurai & ninja movies (currently watching tenchijin taiga drama)

Hi Everyone!

I was browsing the interweb for information concerning all the events I've been going to and found BayAnime.

Turns out I've attended at least 90% of the events posted here. So I think I'll meet some new people with similar interests and hopefully make some new friends!

About Me:

I've discovered anime while watching channel 44 in the bay area. Both dragonball (original) and ronin warriors were dubbed. These shows were so good that I was hooked! From then on I've watched any anime from IRC, AZNTV, DVDs, Cable TV, and other means.

Only until after college did I started to attend conventions, concerts, events, and festivals. The whole time I did not know they existed!!! So for now I'm planning to attend as many as I can.

Current favorite Anime:
Eden of the East, Eureka Seven, Ergo Proxy, Macross Plus, Full Metal Panic, Samurai Champloo, and a few Shonen and Seinen.

I've been posting for a while, but thought I'd formally (or not so formally) introduce myself...

I'm an anime and manga fan who also works in the industry as an English adaptation writer. I'll be writing reviews for BayAnime starting in the near future. Looking forward to it! ^_^

Well, I have finally decided to write up a proper introduction.

I enjoy lolita fashion and gundam model kits. I should try building a model in a sweet lolita dress or something. ;D I don't watch anime as much as I used to. The last series I watched to completion was Samurai Champloo. I watched it about seven times already. Right now, I'm watching Ouran and Gurren Lagann. I'm not making very much progress...

Yeah! I'll be at the meet-up on the 15th! Don't be afraid to go up to me and stuff. I get a bit giggly when meeting new people though. >_>

EDIT:

I am also currently taking Japanese at my high school. I'm going into my third year. And err, I like collecting Japanese plushies like Rilakkumas and domos and gloomy bears and stuff.

EDIT AGAIN:

I'm also into Studio Ghibli stuff. Hayao Miyazaki is like...my idol. I love his stuff. I honestly thing that his movies are the only form of anime I actively watch. There, I'm done. No more editing. I think.
