Yes I agree!! Every time I receive my invoice from SMJ I am always disappointed and feel like I'm paying way more than I expected to pay and more than I would have wanted to if I had known. There internal shipping cost which included shipping to the US as a batch shipment seems as if it's enough to send the item directly to me by itself without a batch. Then there is still the shipping fees within the US to me! No more SMJ!

Hey everyone! I've started a blog http://newgameplus.tumblr.com/ as a means to help motivate myself in my indie game endevours and help other indie gamers find resources and ideas. It's all in the beginning stages right now, but I do hope it will motivate other budding game designers to just go for it. There is also a facebook fan page, "new game plus" you can join and receive updates.

For those of you planning your preorders, I got an email today from Hobby Search about their SAL shipping starting in JAN 2010:

Dear Customer,

Thank you very much for your inquiry. The unregistered SAL will be available in January at HOBBY SEARCH.

Thank you very much.

Sincerely Yours,Atsu HAYASHI

Oh! And I crunched numbers and it seems that PayPal will give you roughly 97.5% of the USD/JPY market exchange rate. I hope that info helps when deciding to pay with either your credit card or PayPal.

DYRL84 on "Capital One...the credit card of choice for purchases abroad?"

I tested out my Capital One card's currency conversion rate by buying a stuffed Boota from Hobby Link Japan.
http://www.hlj.com/product/CSP36770

The transaction date was NOV 30, 2009 but the charge posted to my card 16 days later on DEC 16, 2009. My closing date was DEC 11, 2009.

After crunching numbers I got a rate of 88.79 YEN per USD. I watched the exchange rates for Thursday, DEC 16, 2009 and I saw that the rates were between 89.5 to 90.00 YEN per USD. My rate could mean that 1) Capital One really does charge roughly a 1% currency conversion fee (which is still a good rate) or that 2) there is no currency conversion fee and because of differences in time zones the Wednesday, DEC 15, 2009 rates were used instead which would mean that Capital One used the lowest rate of that day. Regardless, this was a better rate than PayPal's Thursday, DEC 16, 2009 rate of 86.85 YEN per USD or paying with a different credit card with a higher currency conversion fee.

I don't know if this is standard practice for Capital One or if the posting delay was due to the holiday season but the card posting 16 days later was a good thing because I don't have to pay for the charge during the upcoming JAN 2009 statement. Posting to the credit card at a later date was also a good thing because the rates on the day of posting were more favorable than the rates on the day of the transaction (around 86.30).

I'm confused. Is this something to really brag about? It's very crammed with boxes that will never be opened, the clashing colors make it painful (although it'd be pretty cool if it was color-sorted), and it's a lot of money gone away for decoration. Space is starting to become an issue, and probably money too. If he has to move out, it's going to be hell.

HLJ is running another "buy one stock dump and get free shipping" promo yet again (4th time this year lol). Hmmm...They must have A LOT of stock to dump!

AmiAmi will keep offering Registered SAL shipping.

Hobby Search will add SAL shipping in JAN 2010. Hopefully it's the "el cheapo" SAL like HLJ offers. Great move IMO. Their prices usually run a tad lower than HLJ's prices. Lower than HLJ prices + Hobby search points + SAL and they might actually be able to compete with AmiAmi's Registered SAL shipped items. (I imagine that you can even throw in more savings by paying with a 0% currency conversion fee, Capital One credit card).

The costumes in my opinion, were the best part of the exhibition. Fanime has a coupon code for it now (type in 'Fanime' when it asks for a promotion code), so it brings it down to only $20, $18 if you're a student.

Well. Well. Well. I got a package from Toys Logic that I was going to give as a gift. The shipping box arrived with no visible damage. The item was nestled comfortably among newspapers.

But the item's packaging looked like they used it as a soccer ball or a dropped kicked football. It seems to me that the employees have a lot of time to enjoy intramural sports with customer packages or that Toys Logic buys "unsalable" damaged/prior-returned goods at pennies on the dollar and still sells them as if they were mint condition.

A Toys Logic order that arrives with the shipping box in waaaay better condition than the item's box is a total fail.

I can see why anonymouse only worked there for two weeks.

I'm done with Toys Logic.
